It’s been just over a year since Quality Co-Ordinator Wendy Oyatey joined Crane. In that time, they’ve brought a fresh, process-driven approach to quality management, played a key role in the rollout of a new quality management system and worked to embed quality as a shared responsibility across the business.
We sat down with her to reflect on the journey so far, what they’re most proud of and what the next chapter looks like.
You’ve now completed your first year at Crane – how would you describe your overall experience and time with the business so far?
My first year at Crane has been incredibly rewarding. It has been a great opportunity to contribute to a business with strong technical expertise while developing in my role and building relationships across teams. It has been a busy and positive first year, with lots of learning and meaningful progress.
Looking back over the past year, what have been the most significant changes or improvements you’ve made in your role?
One of the biggest areas of focus has been strengthening and improving our quality management processes, including document control, compliance systems and supporting the rollout of Q-Hub. I’ve also worked to bring more structure, visibility and consistency to quality activities across the business.
What expertise and perspective have you brought into the role, and how have these contributed to strengthening the organisation’s quality?
I’ve brought a process-driven and improvement-focused approach, with a strong emphasis on compliance, practical solutions and collaboration. I like to look at not just meeting requirements, but making systems work effectively for the people using them.
Reflecting on your first year, which achievement or initiative are you most proud of, and what impact has it had on the business?
I’m particularly proud of contributing to the development and implementation of Q-Hub, as well as supporting broader improvements within the quality management system. It has helped strengthen control, accessibility, and consistency, while supporting a more connected approach to quality.
As you move into your second year, what are your key priorities and goals for further enhancing quality at Crane?
My focus in my second year is to continue strengthening quality across the business and encourage active involvement from all departments, with quality seen as a shared responsibility rather than something owned by one function. This includes supporting wider awareness of ISO 14001 and strengthening our ISO 17025 accreditation, alongside progressing towards ISO 45001 certification, and developing a more integrated approach to quality, environmental and health and safety management.
And finally, can you tell us one fun fact about you, that your colleagues might not know?
A fun fact about me is that outside of work I have a big interest in Muay Thai and combat sports.
After a hugely positive first year, Wendy has already made a meaningful contribution to quality at Crane. With a process-driven mindset, a collaborative approach and an ambitious agenda for year two, there’s plenty more to look forward to.
