When one of the world’s leading automotive manufacturers, Stellantis, needed a tool-checking solution for their manufacturing plant based in Luton, they came to our experts at Crane Electronics for advice.
The multinational automotive manufacturing business, which operates in over 30 countries needed support for their Luton-based plant, which manufactures commercial van models for well-known brands including Vauxhall.
Their production engineering team have recently switched their testing process to include weekly tool checks. The team highlighted that they required a more time-efficient process which still made the priority to deliver the highest quality, affordable and safe products for their customers.
Our experts at Crane Electronics used their torque management and control experience to provide a tailored solution to the team at Stellantis. We provided our MTTS (mobile torque testing station) trolley. This included our TorqueStar data collector connected up to a series of joint kits and a range of innovative CheckStar Multi rotary torque transducers. The solution would allow for high precision and accurate torque and angle measurement of all continuous drive and impulse tools.
This solution was combined with our OMS (Opta Management System) torque software package. This created a simple process for recording and storing regular tool testing data, allowing the customer to view a detailed history of each tool’s auditing record as well as the ability to create and download reports.
The introduction of Crane’s innovative software and products was a substantial improvement to their previously manual tool and quality auditing process with the mobile torque testing station allowing greater traceability of tool calibrations with minimal downtime. This new process is not just time-efficient but creates peace of mind for the management at Stellantis as they know all assembly tools are delivering the required torque tightening levels and accurate assembly performance to create high-quality and safe products for their customers.
John Jones, UK Sales Manager at Crane Electronics, who helped deliver the solution to the customer, comments:
