When the Norton Motorcycle Company, a globally renowned British brand of luxury motorcycles, wanted to improve upon their hand-built manufacturing process by incorporating torque data collection, Crane Electronics provided a tailored solution for their workforce.
Norton, a leading motorbike company based in the Midlands, was looking to introduce data collection to improve traceability in their current production process. With each product being built by hand, there was currently no digital process in place to record data throughout production accurately. To strengthen their safeguarding against risks, improve traceability and prove the high quality and standard of work, digital data collection needed to be implemented into their processes.
We worked closely with the customer to create a bespoke solution to both increase the efficiency of production and data collection. It was essential that we found a solution that was first-class and showcased the high standards of work, for both our customer and theirs.
Our tailored solution for the customer included introducing a series of multiple WrenchStar Multi digital torque wrenches and TCI’s (Tool Controller Interface) to operate on a series of workstations with 3rd-party operator guidance systems. The WrenchStar Multi, a versatile torque wrench with a 360° light ring and vibration alert to achieve accurate results, allows their engineers to view current task information on a clear OLED display screen.
Combined with the TCI controllers, our solution allows the customer to accurately measure and tighten critical fasteners to their pre-set torque specifications and digitally record the critical assembly torque and angle data.
Overall, the solution delivered by Crane Electronics has not only provided the customer with the ability to collect key torque data, but it has also increased efficiency across their teams by allowing them to introduce new operators into the production line in a shorter time frame, with fewer training requirements.
John Jones, UK Sales Manager at Crane Electronics, who helped deliver the solution to the customer, comments:

We look forward to continuing to work with this customer and helping to develop further enhancements to the efficiency of their processes.”
