Crane Electronics Ltd, a global leader in torque management, is proud to announce that it has received the Carbon Neutral Waste Certification.
The certification was awarded by Envirovue as Crane achieved zero waste to landfill status, with the milestone reflecting the company’s commitment and proactive approach to environmental sustainability.
To achieve such certification, Crane Electronics underwent an intense assessment process, which included an evaluation of its waste management practices and implementation of waste reduction strategies.
Barrie Etter, Crane’s Environment Advisor & IMS Manager explained that the organisation has spent the last 18 months working hard to reduce its carbon footprint. He said:
“Our branding colours might be blue but at Crane, we are committed to being as green as possible, and gaining this certification demonstrates that.
Sustainability is at the top of everyone’s agenda, including ours. After all, we recognise that even the smallest changes we put in place today will have a huge impact on tomorrow. I’ve got a grandson; I want to play a part in making sure he has a better future.
Since April 2023, we have been on a journey to achieve ‘zero waste to landfill’ status, which means that everything we dispose of here at Crane will be recycled in one form or another.”
In collaboration with Envirovue – a nationwide company supporting businesses in reducing their carbon footprint – Crane has been able to calculate its residual emissions in accordance with ISO 14064 protocol and offset them via gold standard verified projects.
Barrie continued:
“Previously, we would guestimate how much of our waste would be recycled but now we don’t have to. For example, we can officially and confidently say that from 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024, we disposed of 15.72 tonnes of waste – none of which went to landfill.
And it’s not just about us putting sustainable practices in place but also encouraging and influencing everyone, including our employees to become eco-friendly ambassadors.”

Crane has been ISO 14001 accredited since 2002. This internationally recognised set of standards helps companies worldwide to reduce their environmental impact. To help boost sustainability in the workplace, Crane has implemented numerous practices.
In April 2022, LED lighting was introduced throughout Crane’s head office in Hinckley, Leicestershire, which reduced energy consumption by more than 20 per cent.
Solar panels were also installed in June 2023, with an average of 20% the energy generated at Crane going back to the national grid (this figure reached 48% in June 2024).
And as well as swapping the company van for an EV model, Crane has also pledged to get a tree planted in projects across the world, for every order taken.
Barrie added:
“Within days of launching the initiative, our ‘plant a tree’ promise, more than 50 trees were planted in just a few days. As of early 2024, we had planted more than 3,200 trees.”
Crane’s Managing Director, Adrian Duffin said:
“We are incredibly proud to receive the Carbon Neutral Waste Certification.
This achievement is testament to our dedication to sustainability and our commitment to making a positive impact on the environment. We believe that every business has a responsibility to operate sustainably, and we will continue to innovate and lead by example in our industry.
Looking ahead, Crane is committed to furthering its sustainability efforts, by increasing the use of renewable energy sources within its operations and setting ambitious targets for reducing our carbon footprint.”
