When encountering difficulties with certain joint applications, quality departments rely on a graphical torque analysis of the actual fastening procedure to solve the problem. TorqueStar Opta is a portable torque indicator and data collector which enables the operator to view and store rundown traces of torque vs. time. A new software module now allows the TorqueStar Opta to save multiple torque traces/graphs. These can be downloaded to a PC or laptop for closer comparison and analysis at the end of a test series. There is a number of graphical representations to choose from, ranging from a single graph to the overlay of multiple curves. However, the operator doesn’t have to wait to download the graphs to a PC for a first ”ad-hoc” or initial analysis. It is possible to see the graph of the last tightening process on the TorqueStar Opta unit itself. A zoom function also enables a more detailed view of the curve points. The TorqueStar Opta can be used with compatible wrenches, stationary and rotary transducers. Crane’s ”Plug & Play” system avoids set-up failures between these and the data collector. Potential applications can be found in various environments ranging from assembly to line testing: graphical analysis of new joints during destruction testing with a wrench in a quality lab, or power tool testing of the application on the production line. |
