Phials, small glass containers for liquid medicines, are widely used in the healthcare industry and pharmaceutical manufacturers are turning to Crane Electronics to ensure that exactly the right torque is applied when the phial closure is tightened. Too little torque can lead to spillages and too much torque can make it impossible for the user to open his phial. Mechanical torque testers are not precise enough for measuring release-torque but Crane Electronics’ CapStar II uses digital measurement which is better suited for accurate testing. Different fixtures enable testing of diverse phial sizes from a diameter of 8mm up to 26mm. Larger sizes can be accomodated by CapStar II's standard fixture. In addition the CapStar II can also be used with its standard fixture to test larger size containers and bottles. Specifically designed for use in the pharma industry the portable torque tester offers a measurement range from 0.4 – 4 Nm. The unit measures top torque including sigma, mean and range. Some manufacturers perform spot tests of batches after they have just been tightened and keep samples for long term testing. These samples are kept in storage and are checked over time to establish whether the “release-torque” drops below the set torque specifications. On the CapStar II a torque threshold can be programmed for fast and easy testing. The memory of the unit can store up to 200 readings with date and time stampings. The recording and archiving of data is made easy by the torque tester’s facility to print data locally. The data can also be downloaded to a PC.
