| Digital Torque Wrench: Length Compensation |

Crane Electronics’ IQWrench Opta has all the SPC capabilities and measurement modes and other features expected from an advanced torque and angle wrench. A torque range of 1Nm to 1500Nm is covered.
For a number of reasons, certain fastening applications need manual tightening with torque and angle parameters. This means that a digital torque wrench for this application has to be capable of accommodating bespoke tool adaptors which may vary in length. IQWrench Opta addresses this requirement with a length compensation function and automatic tool head identification. This ensures correct torque measurement and full traceability. The length compensation only requires the user to enter the length from the end of the wrench to the middle of the head of the bolt. The IQWrench Opta does the rest. No calculations of complex formulas need to be performed by the operator. Different tool head adaptors and their various lengths can be saved and easily retrieved from the wrench.
The use of tool head adaptors with various lengths can be “simplified” by using the IQWrench Opta’s Auto-ID. Crane will equip or manufacture tool head adaptors with an automatic identification. The wrench will automatically recognise the tool head adaptor and associated torque tasks when it is inserted into the wrench. This Auto-ID also guides an operator through an operating sequence. The wrench will instruct what task to do next if the correct adaptor has been selected. Only when the correct adaptor is used, it is possible to perform the measurement. At the same time, all specifications for this task and adaptor are retrieved such as torque target, torque limits, numbers of fastenings and so on. It is straightforward to set up the IQWrench Opta. It can be password protected to avoid unauthorised tampering with the settings and completed readings. It’s equally easy to use the IQWrench Opta with a wide range of measurement options - torque, angle, track, peak, move-on and yield. IQWrench Opta offers a choice of communication options, including wireless, to the customer’s network. This allows integration into QA systems or simple downloading and uploading of data, including multiple traces and graphs of data. All of Crane Electronics’ torque tools are developed and manufactured in-house. The company’s customer support team has direct access to the internal engineering and software departments. Repairs and recalibrations can also be undertaken by Crane’s UKAS accredited calibration and repair centre. Speak to Crane about your torque application!
