Ergonomics: Digital Torque Wrench PDF Print

The IQWrench Opta is the latest product from Crane Electronics Ltd to offer some of the most advanced measurement technology, storage and SPC capabilities. All of this has been packaged in an ergonomic wrench which has been designed to maximise the comfort of the operator.

Digital Torque Wrench with angle measurement

The wrenches are a lot lighter than may be anticipated from a wrench with such comprehensive capabilities. The smaller wrenches weigh below 1kg. The larger wrenches are about twice this weight.

The physical sizes are also worth mentioning e.g. a 10Nm IQWrench Opta is only 300mm long.

The IQWrench Opta is a natural choice for working in confined spaces. The operator does not have to worry how he holds the wrench. It is point of load insensitive ensuring precise measurement independent of how the wrench is held.

Feedback of the fastening process is important for the operator to perform his job correctly. Crane has improved the processing speed of its wrenches giving an even better sampling rate. The status of the fastening process is given by a choice of visual, audible and physical alarms.

LED torque alarms on back and front of digital torque wrench

Visual indications are multi-coloured LEDs on both the front and back of the wrench. A real time graph on the display gives a clear indication of the tightening process e.g. target torque, lower and upper torque specification, alternatively torque or angle. In situations where the operator cannot look at the wrench, he can choose between a vibrating handle and acoustic signals to indicate the tightening status.

A heavy-duty cradle serves as a dedicated storage space for the wrench and can be mounted vertically and horizontally. The cradle combines three functions: recharging of the batteries, programming the tool and downloading readings to a PC.

The IQWrench Opta has state of the art battery technology and can be used for at least a full shift on a single charge.

It is straightforward to set up the IQWrench Opta. It can be password protected to avoid unauthorised tampering with the settings and completed readings. It’s equally easy to use the IQWrench Opta with a wide range of measurement options - torque, angle, track, peak, move-on and yield.

IQWrench Opta offers a choice of communication options, including wireless, to the customer’s network. This allows integration into QA systems or simple downloading and uploading of data, including multiple traces and graphs of data.

All of Crane Electronics’ torque tools are developed and manufactured in-house. The company’s customer support team has direct access to the internal engineering and software departments. Repairs and recalibrations can also be undertaken by Crane’s UKAS accredited calibration and repair centre.
